AbstractThis study presents a fleet assignment model and a maintenance-base scheduling model for the intercontinental route of an airline as integer linear programming models. The first objective of the study is to improve the basic fleet assignment model. It introduces the method of generating the route focusing on the criteria of connecting flights, A-check availability at the end of each flight segment, and the seat allocation model considering the optimal number of passengers in each combined route to achieve the maximum profit. In addition, the range operation ·constraint is added into the basic fleet assignment to make it practical. After obtaining the assigned fleet solution, this study applies the principle of first in first out (FIFO) policy to make the path of an individual aircraft. Then each path of an individual aircraft is solved to carry out the solution of where and when an aircraft must perform an A-check. It is solved to meet the minimized maintenance operating cost by applying the maintenance-base scheduling model. It is improved to fit the flight characteristic that is based on the consecutively connecting flight and the maintenance graph. Apart from the above, this study runs the model not only to figure out the solution of a past flight schedule but to show the contribution of the presented models in several scenarios that represents realistic situations in the fleet operation planning process.
