AbstractSupply chain management is a term used to describe the design, maintenance, and operation of supply chain processes for satisfaction of end user needs, which is influenced by advances in other disciplines, such as marketing, information systems, economics and logistics, and that many advances are occurring in non-quantitative aspects as well. An important observation in supply chain management, popularly known as the bullwhip effect, which is a phenomenon that takes place when the variability of demand is amplified as the demand information is conveyed throughout the supply chain such as a retailer to a distribution center, and the distribution center to a manufacturer, and the manufacturer to a supplier, and so on. Former researchers proved the existence of the bullwhip effect and identified the main causes of the effect: demand forecasting, lead times, batch ordering, price variations, and inflated orders. Also, the bullwhip effect has been quantified by many ways. In this thesis, we develop a model base on the @RISK simulation program to quantify the bullwhip effect. Simulation results are use to show the influences of forecasting techniques and service level on the bullwhip effect.
