Abstract | The multi Degree Of Freedom (DOF) prosthetic hands that are being developed by many research groups still have the problem about interfacing with the user (the amputee). That is, how an ordinary person can control the complex mechanism. In other word, how the disabled person can generate many commands to control the prosthetic hand mechanism. We can develop a controller for the prosthetic hand based on the observation that bioelectric signal is generated when the forearm muscles are contracting (EMGElectroMyoGram or ElectroMyoGraphic). For instance, the electronic controller circuit will measure the EMG signal from the surface EMG electrode attached on the skin of the amputee, analyze and interpret the measured signal and finally, send the corresponding command to the prosthetic hand In this thesis, the prototype of EMG recognition equipment is created. It is made by the commercial EMG electrode-Ag(AgCl) material, EMG amplifier circuit developed by the student, off-the-shelf data input card and the novel neural network based recognition software using C++ language. The main contributions of this thesis are the low cost EMG amplifier circuit and the framework to implement neural network in C++ language. |
