AbstractResearch on remote teleoperation of robotic vehicle has been of particular interest to the experimenters in the field of robotics for quite a time. This kind of projects normally involves high cost of implementation and sophisticated laboratory facilities for development and experimentation. Hence, despite of tremendous interest, it becomes very difficult for experimenters to entertain their interest in this field. Though numerous hardware are available in the market to develop such a robotic system, it remains beyond reach to most of the experimenters if not blesses with the facilities of a highly equipped laboratory. An attempt to solve this problem, by developing a low-cost teleoperated robotic vehicle from off-the-shelf components is made in this study. This study also approaches to provide a haptic feedback to the operator using an easily available force feedback gaming joystick. The study implements a simple bumper switch as its sensor for the robotic platform for generating the feedback at the operator end and also shows the way to implement additional sensors to develop a complete system. The aim is to demonstrate the idea that a basic teleoperated robotic vehicle can easily be developed maintaining a very low cost of development which works fine enough for laboratory demonstration and experimentation.
