AbstractThe leakage in the high-pressure fuel delivery subsystem of the diesel engine Common Rail System is a severe problem. The research department of Robert Bosch GmbH tries to find a way to protect this problem. One approach is to diagnosis the system using the discrete-event modelling. The diagnostic system uses only qualitative online measurements, which are given in form of threshold crossings. The sequence of passed threshold defines a discrete/event sequence. A non-deterministic automaton represents the normal and faulty discrete-event behaviour of the system. The diagnostic algorithm checks whether an observed discrete-event sequence is consistent with the predictions of this non-deterministic automaton. If an inconsistency occurs a fault is detected. Within the master thesis measurement sequences of a car using a Common Rail diesel injection system have to be assembled and post-processed. These measurements have to be used to set up qualitative models (automaton). For this modelling task functions of a MATLAB toolbox are available. The qualitative models have to be applied within the given diagnostic algorithm for the detection of leakage in the Common Rail System. Tests have to be performed to determine the capabilities and limits of the diagnostic approach. The model complexity and the quality of the diagnostic results depend on an appropriate selection of signal thresholds. These thresholds have to be varied such that the leakage detection can be solved with high fault detection rate, low false alarm rate and minimal model complexity.
