AbstractBecause any changes taken for the purpose of quality improvement cost money, it is normal to want an answer to the question: "What will be the effects of that action?" before implementing that change. So, what is required is a tool to investigate the quality performance and the financial implications of changes in equipment, set-up, procedures, ... before they are implemented. This would be an important help in decisions making. A mathematical model can be a tool to predict the economic consequences of the actions the organisation plans to take. But, because a simulation tool can model linear drift of the mean proportion defectives and also sudden shifts of this mean (generated randomly), and because a simulation model is a dynamic system, it is certainly more adequate than the mathematical model. Both models will be studied in this research. After studying the effects of the different actions that can be taken, it will be possible to improve the actual system, and reduce the costs related to poor quality.
