AbstractThis study considers the design of optimal, interrelated single sampling and inspection plans, manufacturing process quality level, and incoming quality level for a single product manufacturing system. Cost components of the system such as raw material cost, inspection cost, repair or replacement cost and basic conversion cost are identified. A mathematical model is developed and the optimal solution is derived using the dynamic programming forward recursion technique for the expected total manufacturing cost subject to an AOQL (average outgoing quality limit) constraint. Basing on the model, a computer program in Pascal language is developed to obtain the optimal solution. The computer program is then applied to a modern production line as a case study, with the AOQL specified by the factory under study. Results obtained are analyzed to draw necessary conclusions. Directions for further study are also recommended.
