AbstractThis study aims to generate 3D surface model of the human skull and design interfaces that are used for the purpose of extracting anthropometric indices of the skull. To generate this 3D surface model, the study must base on CT data. By means of MIMICS software, the CT data is processed. After processing the CT data, this software generates IGES contours file of the skull. The IGES contours file is a type of 3D geometric model file that is standardized internationally (ISO standard). An algorithm is designed for reading the IGES contours file of the skull and redrawing the respective contours in the main interface of AutoCAD software. Due to the size of the IGES contours file is so big, so another algorithm is also designed for reducing that file size. From the obtained contours, one more algorithm is designed for generating a matrix of control points that is a base in constructing the 3D meshes-surface model. Processing the matrix and constructing the respective 3D surface model in the main interface of AutoCAD software is the last algorithm designed in this study. By means of Visual Basic programming language, the algorithms are implemented. The program also results in the interfaces as essential tools for determining the anthropometric indices and saving them in an Excel file. The Excel file will be further used in Ethnic Differences in Facial Proportions study, Age and Sex-related Changes in Facial Proportions study, Clinical study, Facial Prop01iion in Aesthetic Surgery study, Linear Proportion in Above and Below-Average Woman's Faces study and Facial Propo1iions in Medical Illustration study [1].
