Abstract | CAD/CAM/CNC technology in cranioplasty is mainly applied for two purposes: preoperative planning and implant design. CAD/CAM technology and solid based CAD/CAM models are the most common method for geometric modeling and tool-path generation. The CAD/CAM software enables us to quickly generate the complex geometric models and the tool-paths based on solid models. The purpose of this thesis is to investigate the methods of design and manufacturing of the molds for fabricating PMMA and Titanium implants used in the field of cranioplasty by CAD/CAM/CNC technology. In this thesis, a new approach for generating CAD/CAM models of implant and molds based on solid models was given. The design and manufacture of two types of the mold for fabricating PMMA implants suitable for different cases of geometric models was focussed on. This method was developed and considered to be applicable for cases that have complex shape using advantages and availability of CNC milling technique. Besides, a set of rubber pressing mold including a punch and a die was designed and machined developing for the forming of Titanium implant. The proposed method was based on three-axis milling, as the cun-ent state of five-axis milling is not always available for implant manufacturing. |
