| Abstract | Benchmarking is a very effective managerial method to achieve the best practices in construction project management. By using its concepts, project managers can understand the strength and weakness of their performances. Thus, they can obviously have proactive actions to lead the project to achieve the goals as on time, within budget and satisfy quality. However, benchmarking has not yet been known in Vietnamese construction industry. Therefore, the research focuses on applying benchmarking concepts to identify the practical key performance indicators (KPis) that could be applied in Vietnamese construction projects. Data collection was conducted by interviewing ten construction experts, two civil engineering professors and eight project managers to find out the practical KPis. Case studies of four projects were also carried to search for the practical practices. The comparison and exploration of cross-case synthesis are used to analyze the collected data. The finding points out eight practical KPis among thirty one KPis and benchmarks the practices of four construction projects. The research recommends Vietnamese construction companies to apply benchmarking concepts into their construction works. Starting with internal benchmarking of eight practical KPis in different projects, finally, the training of key personnel to understand the benchmarking concepts and its application is very critical for the success of implementation. |
