AbstractThe number of network services used by Service Providers is ever increasing. The time and cost of deploying the existing and new network services is critical challenges to the today’s enterprise networks. Network Function Virtualization (NFV) due to its cost-efficiency, scalable, and faster deployment of such services is the best reliable solution. NFV helps to implement the services as of chains of VNFs which is placed in the network. The placement of chain is a critical task as it determines the quality of service and the cost to provider. This research paper formulates the problem of VNF placement and chaining as an Integer Linear Programming and proposes a Cost-Efficient Centrality based VNF placement and chaining algorithm (CCVP). The problem seeks to minimize the provider cost by finding the optimal number of VNFs as well as the locations of VNFs. The CCVP algorithm uses a Centrality based vertex selection using Flow Source Modification to decrease the objective cost, which is a highlight of this research. The algorithm behavior is analyzed using simulations.
