AbstractThe traditionally managed agroforestry based farming. system. practices of the Bhamarakhola watershed, Bara and Sanohardiyakhola Watershed, Rautahat is contributing low level in self-sufficiency for livelihood from agroforestry. Local people have mostly dependent on national forest as their defecto right, as a open access and as a common pool resources for their fuelwood, fodder, timber, leaflitters and for NTFPs (non timber forest products) which have been leading to devastation of forest resources and degradation of watersheds. People have been cultivating agroforestry fruit trees, fodder trees, fuelwood/ timber trees, medicinal trees and ornamental trees traditionally by the practices of homegarden near homestead area, boarder planting on bunds of farm land, row plantation of fruit trees and in between cultivation until the root competition and crown competition not hampered the serial crops, woodlot of Sissoo plantations and Bamboos for their subsistence in livelihood, which felt need to intensify and improvement by providing extension for awareness creation, capacity building, support services and agroforestry research and demonstration of technological interventions to farmers on farmer's field conditions. Various problems in connection to agroforestry mentioned in this research is felt need to solve to maximize the contribution of agroforestry to livelihood and simultaneously needed to support to the fatmers towards income generation activities by which raised income of the households lead to think more about agroforestry intensification in their land consequently the pressure on national forest will reduce. In fact, if watershed settlers will more self-sufficiency on fuelwood, fodder, timber, fruits and bamboos consequently the degradation of watersheds will reduce and the fertility of the soil will enhance by the reduction of dependency on national forest. Farmers have positive attitude towards benefits, beauty and importance of agroforestry but permit system to cut agroforestry tree, transport of wood products, VAT for selling and export ban have been leading to discouraged to the people towards agroforestry intensification. Lastly, the author wants to say that the findings of the study is based on respondents perception, recall of memory, sincere contribution of respondent farmers in household survey, key informants interview and field observation which has explorered technically to suggest recommendations in connection to contribution of agroforestry to livelihood.
