Abstract | We are proceeding towards the fifth generation of wireless networks, Now the energy efficiency metric has a prominent role in the design criterion because it supports the operations at practically affordable energy levels. Two network densification approaches small cells and Massive MIMO are analyzed to design an energy efficient system. This can be achieved by minimizing the total power consumption. Power consumption is classified into dynamic and static power where static power is the sum of emitted powers and dynamic part would convey the power dissipation in the circuits. Primary aim of this research study is the power minimization. Along with that, this study also predicts the hardware that is number of antennas to be equipped at the SCAs for minimal power consumption. Promising results on power consumption are shown by combining small cells with multiple antenna system motivated from Massive MIMO. Main advantage of Massive MIMO is suppression of interference whereas with small cells is that propagation losses can be reduced. Combining these two can achieve the maximum energy efficiency. |
