AbstractMobile ad hoc network is self-organizing wireless network which does not require for any fixed infrastructure because every node in the network acts as a router or packet forwarder by itself. In this thesis, we will focus on Optimized Link State Protocol (OLSR). OLSR is a proactive routing type which suits for delay-sensitive application like a multimedia application. However, OLSR itself does not have the capability to support Quality of Service (QoS) required by multimedia applications. OLSR uses the Multipoint Relays (MPR) algorithm to select paths depend on the minimum control over head flooded by nodes in the network so the best path may be hidden. Therefore, the numbers of possible paths are limited and it does not guarantee for the most optimal path in transmission from the selected path. Many research proposed QoS to improve the performance of OLSR by considering Connectivity Index (CI) in the Network layer for the link characteristic of each node in the network and/or Bit Error Rate (BER) getting from physical layer and used by the cross-layer design approach. This research focuses on selection the best optimal path by assign appropriate weight allocation to CI and BER parameters for them to be used simultaneously together in the cross-layer design approach to find the most optimal path and also improve the network performance.
