Abstract | Dissemination is an integral part of an agricultural innovation research and development lifecycle. An agricultural innovation, no matter how well it is developed, would be perceived as useless if it is not disseminated and adopted. Dissemination of agricultural innovations is the process by which information on agricultural innovation is communicated through a particular channel in particular time frames among the stakeholders. There are five important components in dissemination of agricultural innovation, namely: (1) agricultural innovation, (2) researchers, (3) organization, (4) dissemination materials and (5) dissemination activities. This research has three specific objectives, namely: (1) propose ontology that cover important components in dissemination of agricultural innovation, (2) develop prototype Semantic Web-based Information System for Dissemination of Agricultural Innovations (SWISDAgrI) that integrate all of those five components, and (3) conduct user experience testing for semantic interoperability and reusability. This research uses Iterative and Incremental Development (IID) methodology. This methodology consists five phases, namely: (1) requirement identifications, (2) system analysis, (3) iterative and incremental process for developing ontologies as well as SWIS-DAgrI application, (4) deploy full system, and (5) maintenance and review. This research proposes an ontology that has suffix “dagri” with URI http://dagri.litbang.deptan.go.id. “Dagri” ontology consists of one concept (skos:concept) and five classes. The concept covers classification of agricultural innovation based on agribusiness subsystems and agricultural sub sectors. The five classes are: (1) AgriculturalInnovations, (2) Organizations, (3) Person, (4) DisseminationMaterials, that consists three subclasses, namely: printed, electronic and product, and (5) DisseminationActivities, that include two subclasses, namely: dissemination venue and dissemination organizer. Prototype SWSI-DAgrI application are developed based on Drupal 7.x framework and could be accessed through the URL http://dagri.litbang.deptan.go.id. This application provides all functionality in order to integrate all five components in dissemination of agricultural innovations. Furthermore, user experience testing is conducted for two types of SWIS-DAgrI users. In addition, interoperability and reusability are conducted using SPARQL views and SPARQL views endpoint to extract data from DBpedia to SWISDAgrI as well as extracting data from SWIS-DAgrI to local websites. |
