Abstract | Business opportunities, brought about by growth and change, have paved the way for entrepreneurial activities through new venture creation, by an individual or group of persons; having significantly contributed to employment generation and economic development in many countries around the world. The vital role of these small firms has been recognized, and government initiatives to help them sustain their performance have been accelerated; yet, their failure rate 'is still high. This may be attributed to the external and internal problems that affect their overall performance. How some small firms thrive despite the many challenges confronting them and their critical success factors of survival and growth, are identified in this study of small- scale enterprises in the Philippines. |
