Abstract | Q Methodology is a relatively new research tool, yet to be applied to the international business arena. I believe that this thesis, using Q empirical studies to analyse different nationalities' discourse patterns, could provide a valuable preliminary foray into complex cross-cultural human subjectivity issues. The specific objective of this thesis is to introduce Q Methodology to the field of crosscultural management by analysing different nationalities' discourse patterns of negotiation, and identifying both the resulting impact this can have on communication issues within cross-cultural management and directions for future study. The chosen methodology, Q, is based on the subjectivity of the human mind, combining the openness of qualitative methods with the statistical rigour of quantitative research analysis. Q allows individual responses around a chosen topic to be con-elated, so as to find inherent structures within the data representing latent discourses (i.e. views and attitudes on the topic). A sample of the relevant population representing Europe and Asia will be selected for the Q empirical studies from the AIT international student body, thereby analysing crosscultural communication issues within an Asian environment.
