AbstractThe management of power systems has become more difficult than ever because power systems are operated closer to security limits. Environmental constraints restrict the expansion of transmission network as well as generation sources, the need for long distance power transfers has increased. Voltage instability has become a major concern in many power systems and many blackouts have been reported. The trend of deregulated market is undergoing in some country. Consequently, there are significant changes in power system operation and control. Although power production, transmission and distribution are unbundled, stability still is basic requirement for operation of any power system. The aim of the present study is to assess the voltage stability of the Vietnam power system and to find measures to increase the loadability margin of system. Analysis of network topology in the period 2004-2005 is carried with the help of continuation load flow (CPF) studies for different operating scenarios. Effect of different load direction and season factor on voltage stability has been examined. Contingency analysis, available transfer capability and loading margin enhancement are also considered in detailed in this thesis.
