AbstractThe implementation of Lanczos vector without damping was previously done and this did not reflect the realistic representation in most of the structural models. So, in order to have a more realistic representation of the structural models Complex Lanczos vector is employed here. This method can be implemented using both proportional (Rayleigh) and non-proportional damping. The method is based on Lanczos method to generate one pair of Krylov subspaces consisting of trial vectors, which is then used to reduce a large eigenvalue problem into a much smaller one. In the process, the method preserves the sparseness and symmetry of the system matrices and does not invoke complex arithmetic. However, the eigenvalues and eigenvectors obtained are complex conjugate, but the displacement response ultimately is a real value since the imaginary terms cancel.
