AbstractRecently conducted researches have revealed that Thailand is at higher seismic risks than Thai people have ever expected. This increases the level of awareness about the possibility of seismic hazards. Because most existing buildings and structures in Thailand are not designed to resist earthquakes, it is believed that these buildings and structures might be damaged and lead to large economic loss if they were struck by earthquakes. One possible way to mitigate the loss from a seismic action is to carry out a comprehensive study on seismic capacities or seismic performance of many different buildings and structures in Thailand. However, this requires accurate knowledge of how members or substructures perform under cyclic loading. The quasistatic cyclic loading tests were carried out on a post-tension flat slab-column connection, which are considered to be one of the most critical members against a seismic action because its failure lead to progressive failure of the structure. A specimen was selected to represent the post-tensioned flat slab-column connection, which is usually found in the existing mid-rise building in Thailand. The test result shows that the punching shear failure occurred after 2% drift under normal service loads. The peak load and corresponding drift of specimen are 104.91 kN and 2.00% drift respectively In addition the slab-column connection strength was calculated by the procedure suggested in ACI 318-95.
