Abstract | Thirty one representative heavy-duty diesel vehicles (HDDV), including 7 groups, namely BMTA non-NC bus, private bus, mini-bus, Euro I NC bus, BMTA Euro II NC bus, preEuro NC bus and truck, were tested by the chassis dynamometer using the Bangkok driving cycle. The pollutants monitored were suspended particulate matter (PM) and PM composition including black carbon (BC), ions, and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) as well as benzene, toluene, xylene, and PAHs (gaseous phase). High emission of PM and BC was found for pre-Euro NC bus, mini-bus and private bus groups. The maximum emission factors of benzene toluene and xylene were found for BMTA non-NC bus, private bus and Euro I NC bus group, respectively. The highest P AHs emission was found for mini-bus group. Overall results show that buses from the private sector tend to emit large amount of particles and air toxic pollutants in Bangkok which might be resulted from the old engine age of vehicles and lack of maintenance. BC is the most abundant element found in PM and So/ยท is the dominant ion for PM composition for all HDDV groups in this study. Source profiles of PM for different HDDV categories are also defined in this study. |
