AbstractBangkok is located in the area underlain by soft soil deposits. The effects of soil conditions in this area result in the signification of soil-structure interaction. As a result, the effects of foundation flexibility become important. In this study, the measured dynamic properties of buildings in Bangkok are collected from previous studies on identification of dynamic properties of buildings in Bangkok by an ambient vibration method. These data are used to characterize the dynamic properties of buildings in Bangkok. The simplified analytical model is formulated to analyze the dynamic properties and study the effects of the foundation flexibility on dynamic properties of buildings in Bangkok. The data of some physical properties of buildings in Bangkok, used to formulate the model, will be collected from previous studies and available as-built drawings. Regression analysis based on the collected data is used to estimate empirical formulas for many quantities. The simplified analytical model is seemed to provide the results which are comparable with the measured data. The results from the analysis of dynamic properties of buildings in Bangkok indicate that the effects of foundation flexibility on dynamic properties are significant for the buildings with low height due to the low lateral stiffness of piles. On the other hand, the high-rise buildings are not affected by the effects of foundation flexibility due to the high lateral stiffness of piles.
