Abstract | The objective of this research is to bring out the key success factors and good practices in the field of privatization of urban water supply management, through the exploration of several Asian cases. The question of water management has reached a particular importance over the last three decades. Awareness of the precious quality of this resource has spread in the governments and in the public opinion. Multiple conferences and initiatives at a national and international level take place at an increasingly frequent pace. The burning question of urban water management takes also a new perspective with the growing pressure for privatization. In Asia, where the issue of water supply in the cities is fed with the increasing development and urbanization rates, the alternative of privatization is advanced by many as salutary - though a lot of debates occur on the subject. While private sector participation proved to be beneficial for some cities, other experiences find mi xed results. Some conditions and frameworks seem essential to bring the change smoothly and to achieve better service and increased efficiency. This research paper aims at identifying those key success factors. |
