AbstractNavigation using Global Positioning System (GPS) is rapidly growing in many fields of application such as military, mapping, agricultme, transp011ation etc. The GPS receiver needs to be developed to satisfy that wide area of application. Nowadays, GPS receiver attempts to reduce in both size and weight of equipment. The method of component integration in conventional equipment is introduced. The implementation of software-based GPS receiver on digital signal processing (DSP) chip is the possible way to support that requirement because of the improvement in processor chip performance. This thesis study presents the model of digital correlator, a pai1 of digital receiver, which extracts navigation data from satellite broadcast signal. Actually, digital correlator is associated component between hardware and software but this study tries to design the whole system with software. In the implementation of the acquisition system, FFT search technique is chosen. Other system, tracking with BASS method is performed as well. Moreover, the methodology for creation satellite broadcast signal is provided. This replica signal is imp011ant for evaluation the operation of digital correlator system. Finally, the test in MATLAB environment shows the accuracy of digital correlator. Then, the complete digital correlator system is implemented in real-time environment by using TMS320C6711 digital signal processor.
