AbstractIn natural condition, bay shapes having sediment supply from upstream catchment and upcoast area will change their shape and approach equilibrium. Effect of sediment supply will govern their shape. A series of experimental model of bay beach is carried out to investigate the planform of bay in both static and dynamic equilibrium with partial sediment supplies at different upcoast locations. The experimental result shows that dynamic equilibrium bay shape can be developed with different amounts of sediment supply. When location of sediment supply changes around upcoast headland, dynamic equilibrium still can occur but different bay shapes can be obtained. Deposition of upcoast area occurs and it shows significantly different from static equilibrium bay. Time to reach dynamic equilibrium is longer compared with that of static equilibrium. Data of Tan and Chiew's experiment (1994) for dynamic bay shape with full sediment supply condition is analyzed, the correlation of indentation ratio (a/ Ro) versus wave obliquity 13 and critical angle 8c versus 13 are established. Comparisons of measured shoreline with dynamic equilibrium bay shape shows that indentation ratio is greater and the same remarks are drawn from the comparisons of critical angle. In order to fit equilibrium bays with parabolic equation, a nonlinear regression program is used to compute coefficients from equations of Hsu and Evans (1989) and Tan and Chiew (1994). All coefficients are compared with that of static equilibrium and dynamic equilibrium for full sediment supply condition. It shows suitable trend, when amount of sediment supply reduce, greatest indentation increase and bay start to approach static bay shape.
