Abstract | This thesis presents mathematical model to support integrated decisions on the planning of harvesting and post-harvesting operations for agricultural production. A mathematical model is formulated to integrate resource allocation decisions in five agricultural operations. Two objective functions are considered to maximize profit, and to minimize total lost sales cost. The mathematical model is validated by solving benchmark test problems via CPLEX with the two single objective functions separately tested. Since the two objective functions are conflicting, both objective functions are also considered simultaneously by including one as objective function while the other is included as constraint. The problems become single objective and CPLEX is again used to solve the benchmark test problems. The experiments show that CPLEX performs well for single objective models for medium and small size problems. Because of the limitation of CPLEX in solving large size problems, a metaheuristic algorithm based on differential evolution (DE) is developed to solve large-scale single objective problems and multi-objective problems. The proposed algorithm can find near optimal solution within short time for large-scale problems. For multi-objective problems, DE can find better Pareto front than CPLEX for most test problems. |
