Abstract | Airlines industry is one of the most vulnerable sectors, which is sensitive to world crisis due to its very nature of operation. The general downturn in the world economy in 2000 coupled with terrorism, SARS and wars in Afghanistan and Iraq turned airlines industry into a catastrophe. Additionally, low-cost carriers started seriously to challenge the established, often network based, airlines. The industry crisis resulted in significant losses for many airlines companies. Now-a-days airlines service is a commodity for consumers. Hence, operating strategically and simultaneously, managing the operation efficiently and effectively has become a crucial challenge for all companies engaged in airlines business. Currently, the trend in the global airlines industry is approaching towards low cost operations. The low cost airlines model has swiftly emerged in the South East Asian region, following years of success in the United States and the European Union. This research paper aims to study and assess the way of SAS and Nok Air operations. This research finds that SAS is trying its best to cope up with global market trends while Nok Air is constantly looking for innovative strategies of getting more customers. |
