| Abstract | Mosaic is the art of producing an image or a pattern by arranging small colored pieces of hard material such as stone tile or glass. With the increasing trend for customized products, the need for custom mosaic designs arose. A smart system flexible enough to handle multiple orders while managing production by self-adapting to changes within the factory environment was necessary. The concept of smart manufacturing suggests that by distributing the decisionmaking capability to the lower levels of a system, the system can adapt in real time to the changing conditions within a factory. In this thesis, using collaboration between the lower levels and with the assistance of communication between these lower levels, a smart system which has the ability to self-adjust to varying conditions within a factory was developed. |
