Abstract | Contents such as text, graphics, illustrations, diagrams and multimedia objects are the elements of a learning object. These learning contents are designed and built by course developers, people who have the knowledge and skills, to create an online learning experience. Once the content is built, it must be packaged and delivered to the repositories such as a Learning Management System (LMS) for accessibility to the learners. The IMS Content Packaging Specifications were reviewed and analyzed to provide the content developers a standardized way to structure and organize their learning objects. An IMS manifest maker was developed and an open source RELOAD tool was used in conjunction, to provide the content packaging functionality. The content repository was made available to the learners, through a form of a web service. The web service presents all the courses and its learning objects available in a modified open-source web application, particularly the "Global Advantage LMS". This permits the potential learners to make their learning decisions before providing registration and authentication information to the LMS. The concepts behind a web service are clearly visualized and implemented in this research; keeping in mind that many talk and know it but no one wants to touch the implementation area |
