Abstract | Although Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) are the grass-roots of the Thai economic system, they still encounter with several obstacles in their operations as they are losing ability for competitiveness because of fierce competition in the market due to changes in advancement of technology. To remove those obstacles faced by SMEs, Thai government introduce SMEs promotion plan (2002-2006) with an objective to strengthening SMEs technological capability through government assistant programs. This research is intended to study the result of government assistant program in technology transfer provided by Ministry of Industry and Ministry of Science and Technology to Automotive and Parts Industry. Fifteen SMEs participated in programs have been studied. The analysis was conducted to evaluate the level of technological capabilities of the firms prior to the program and once after the programs along with the problems facing by the firm so as to their solution. The end result of the study illustrate that the government support programs are successful in rising up the capabilities of the firms. However, the long term development of the programs is required with the intention to sustain competitive edge of SMEs in the market in terms of technology, human resources, financial and marketing. |
