Abstract | Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Thailand has contributed a great deal to the economy. It represents more than 95 percent of enterprises in the country and eases to establish in terms of low capital required. The regional crisis in 1997 created adverse effect to SMEs development, couple with the dynamic change in business environment due to the globalization has forced SMEs to respond with by reshaping its new strategies in all aspects particularly the concept of upgrading technological capability to enhance the competitiveness. The role of government therefore becomes crncial for the sustainable development of SMEs. The technological factors of conducting the business have caused competition to become fierce in almost every business especially in industrial sector. However, there is one method that could assist Thai SMEs to survive is to cooperate among themselves in the form of industrial clusters with an objective to boost potential as well as networking of the government and concerned agencies. This research is intended to analyze the role of government in assisting technology transfer to SMEs in the industrial restructuring economy through government's policies and assistance programs. This study will focus on the electrical and electronics industry which is one of utmost significant sector. |
