| Abstract | The research study set out to analyse critically the nature of university-industry linkage and
how it is perceived by higher education in Vietnam. The author first reviews the nature of
university-industry linkage in term of historical background, mechanisms, activities,
benefits, adverse impacts and different perspectives from university and industry.
He contends that university-industry linkage is increasingly favoured by universities and
industry in both developing and developed countries as a solution to the improvement of
teaching and research quality, and competitiveness and productivity. The case study of
corporate relations at ESCP-EAP-Paris was developed and analysed to illustrate the
practices of linkage. The lessons learnt from the case are valuable to Vietnamese
universities in formulating and managing university - industry relations.
By exposing both positive and negative side of university - industry linkage and its effects
on universities, the author aims to analyse the Higher Education System in Vietnam on the
aspects of development and research capacity and financial source diversification, evaluate
the perceptions of Vietnamese faculty members through their experiences and future
prospects of university - industry linkage, and strongly recommend the development of
university-industry linkages to improve the performance of higher education as a whole. |
