Abstract | Today's business is a global competition, with simultaneous pressures for cost reduction, high quality and service levels. Nowadays, modern companies realize that competition takes place at supply chain rather than single firm level. Only effective supply chain can help reduce costs, shorter lead time, best quality, flexibility, enhanced service and better product availability and reliability. Therefore, supply chain management (SCM) is a key success factor to firms that that need to remain competitive in the higher uncertainty environment. There are few beer brands in Laos. One of these brands is Lao Brewery Co., Ltd (LBC) covering 99% of market shares. Facility, inventory, transportation and information are important keys of supply chain strategy. Plus, managing supply relationship, flows of materials and information within each stage of supply chain from suppliers to end customers are a crucial issue. The objective of this study is to understand the company's supply chain strategy, how to select its competitive advantage. And how to manage its suppliers, its inter firm and customers. In order to have clear understanding on SCM, a case study of LBC was conducted, which consisted of in-depth interview, discuss group and observation. The main problems are lack of information sharing with upstream parties, inaccurate demand forecasting during peak time, operational focus rather than customers focus, lack of complete implementation of e-procurement with suppliers and lack of product information on the company's website. Based on the main findings, some possible recommendations on improvement of upstream relationship, improvement of internal management on communication, operation and IT system, and make a good relationship with downstream parties are proposed. The improvement of supply chain helps the whole supply chain partners avoid some problems and help LBC to manage its supply chain effectively. |
