Abstract | Rapid advances in wireless communication, micro-electronics, and embedded systems (MEMS) during the past several decades have enabled the new generation of massive-scale distributed sensor networks. The technology is much appropriate to a wide range of applications thus had been recognized as one of the dominant technology trends in the coming decades. Among the others, environment monitoring and protection is perhaps the most popular application up to now. Meanwhile, data mining which had been developed for extracting or mining knowledge from large amount of data could be exploited for decision making purpose in environment protection applications. Therefore, an open framework for seamlessly integrating sensor network and data mining technology so that both the huge amount of data generated and collected in sensor networks and the powerful knowledge discovery capability of data mining technology could be effectively and efficiently utilized for decision making purpose is proposed in this paper. With the aid and support of such a framework it's much easier for application developers to implement various specific data mining application systems based on data collected in sensor networks |
