AbstractEven mobile payment technology is available in several countries worldwide, only few that have been obviously success such as Japan with i-mode and South Korea with CDMA service. They have the unique mobile business environment and consumers behavior. Thailand is another country, with different environment, which just evolve the m-payment business. The business in the young stage is very difficult to predict the trend of its growth. However, this research will present about m-payment in Thailand by innovators and consumers perspectives. This information is gained from the interviews the companies in this industry, and 500 sample surveys in Bangkok area. Both side opinion and behavior are analyzed together in order to forecast the possibility of m-payment market today and the trend of m-payment in the future. The previous studies, interviews, and survey result give a mixed result signifying that the technology and infrastructure about mobile in Thailand is not too obsolete comparing to the domestic market conditions. However, they require to be developed to have the same standard and platform for all parties in order to grow m-payment. The 111-payment market is currently too early and it requires time to build awareness to the markets. The mpayment market environment in Thailand is driven by mobile operators. The main operator who launched m-payment service in Thailand is AIS. The mobile operators should encourage the collaboration among all players involved for building the mass market to support this industry. Based on the market situation, AIS should also be the one who drive the trusted third party for connecting all parties and managing the activities of m-payment as well.
