Abstract | Indian firms are threatened at home by competition coming from industrial-country multinationals and challenged by the opportunities available in the domestic market. The globalization of Indian economy brought many challenges, for which the Indian Television manufacturers were not prepared. Due to globalization, the Korean players were able to gain strong foothold in the Indian Television industry. The success of Korean firms in India can be attributed to its access to superior technology, quick expansion local distribution channels, introduction of right products and targeting the mass segment of emerging Indian market. While Indian players have failed to estimate the strength of its competitors, the international players were harping on their efficient management skills, superior products and strong marketing strategy to capture the Indian market. The Korean players have been going in for increased operational efficiencies, which have helped them to price the product competitively. The increasing tendency of the Korean players to sponsor various events also helped their growth. This paper identifies the competitive strengths of both domestic firms and multinational firms and then tries to address the issues relating to success of the multinational versus domestic firm in Indian Television Industry. |
