Abstract | Dispute and claims occur frequently in the construction process. The resulting claim preparation and administration wastefully consume important resources such as time, cost and especially project-personnel expertise. Many contract disputes could be avoided if the disputing parties took fast action with better decision and were administratively inf01med. As a result, to fulfil this perspective, a prototype of claim management was developed to breakthrough those obstructions in the favor of an assisting agent, Information Technology. The objective of the system is to guide and advise inexperienced project personnel to deal with construction claims in the administrative manner. The system described in this study is called Claim Management System. There are two major parts of this system, administration system and documentation system. First, the administration system provides guideline for identifying causation, types of documents needed to support each type of claims, guiding procedure to deal with claim administration, checklist for resulted damages as well as critical information for generating claim proposal. Secondly, the documentation system allows project personnel to store and access claim back-up documents such as daily report, progress report, cost report, correspondence, minutes of meeting, request for information, change order and log. |
