Abstract | Mergers and acquisitions is a global trend now, especially in banking industry. A lot of studies of banking mergers have been done in U.S and Europe. All the prior studies give a mixed result signifying that M&A is a very complex area. Singapore, being a small country has a large and diversified group of local and foreign financial institutions, each offering a wide range of financial products and services. With such a fierce competition, local banks are facing though competition both regionally and internationally. To strengthen the position of the local banks, they are expanding themselves by acquiring other banks in the region. Thus this research focuses on comparing the three merger case studies to analyze the extent to which they generated shareholder wealth and how did the market reacted following those mergers. |
