AbstractIn the resent years, the number of online transactions increases rapidly. The World Wide Web and e-commerce bring a lot of advantages to both customers and merchants. Apart from the traditional commerce, people nowadays can shift to e-commerce which means buying and selling goods online. However, e-commerce also has some disadvantages which cause hesitation in shifting to such new kind of business. Among them, security of transaction is considered the biggest one. It becomes more and more important as the commercial use of the Web is increasingly grown at astonishing pace. A lot of new networks, protocols, software and specifications were developed for these online payment systems for example Credit card- based systems, Electronic checks, Electronic cash .... Beside studying the traditional methods of payment in terms of analysis of the way of payment between the importers, exporters and banks, advantages and risks, the research is also to study some new protocols and new techniques of payment systems for online transactions such as Secure Electronic Transactions (SET), Java Electronic Commerce Framework (JECF), Cisco and Microsoft E-Commerce Framework Architecture, and offer an online model for a traditional method of payment- the Documentary Credits.
