Abstract | A field survey of occupant comfort was conducted in six air-conditioned buildings and one naturally ventilated building in A.I.T. Thermal comfort variables were measured when the subjects answered a survey questionnaire on their perception of the indoor climate. A total of 500 subjects were interviewed to assess their thermal sensation. The data analysis revealed that calculated PMV vote was always higher than actual sensation vote. The various methods of thermal acceptability in this study have shown that votes of airconditioned subjects from direct method and indirect method meet the acceptability criterion of Standard 55. The acceptable temperature range found in this field study ranges from 22°C to 32°C (effective temperature) six degree higher than the summer comfort zone. This study analyzed the neutral temperature of each type of spaces. The comparison of neutral temperatures among genders, age ranges and nationalities were also done. The preferred temperatures for each type of building were analyzed. The results of this field study are agreed with those of similar surveys conducted in tropical climate |
