Abstract | This research is a feasibility study of the computer supported communication methods in project work and aims to find out the best communication methods within project members. This study also examines the work practices and collaborative work among the project members and information sharing within project. The role of community of practice and the role of organizational memory were explored in order to understand their role in the ICT projects. This research study was conducted on five different ICT student projects at AIT: software development project, service-oriented project, eLearning project, eHealth project and banking security system development project. The survey was undertaken and the interviews were conducted on total of 24 project members on their preference of communications and information sharing methods. The results of this study described the role of different communication methods and information sharing methods used in different types of ICT projects. The results implicate that email is the most useful communication method whereas faceto- face meeting is the most common method. This study suggests that information and knowledge sharing can be enhanced by using computerized tools. In this study the storage system is called organizational memory and there are two types of storing practice, such as temporal and record. The results of this study imply the record storage system is better way than temporal system because the record storage system can support learning among the project members. The advantage and disadvantage of different communication methods are also investigated. The personal benefits of project members by using community of practice and organizational memory in their project are also shown as the result of this research study. Finally, the study suggests a framework for using community of practice and organizational memory in ICT projects. The recommended system design is also shown for further research and future works on ICT project design. |
