Abstract | The term human resources implies that people have capabilities that drive organizational performance (along with other resources such as money, materials, and information). Other terms such as human capital and intellectual assets all have in common the idea that people make difference in how an organization performs. These terms highlight the importance of the role of people in an organization. The overall objective of this research is to analyze the recruitment and selection practices in multinational corporations (MNCs) and Small & Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs) operating in Myanmar. For this purpose, a case study is conducted in Schlumberger Oilfield Services (SLB), a multinational corporation, and ACE Data Systems Ltd. (ACE), a local SME, to see how they recruit and select people in accordance with their business objectives and requirements. This paper also tries to compare the recruitment and selection processes of SLB and ACE in terms of their effectiveness, methodology, procedure, sources and critical success factors. Finally, the researcher proposes suggestions and recommendations for the selected companies to improve their current recruiting and selection practices so as to achieve the organizational effectiveness. |
