AbstractThe tourism industry is one the major sector in driving forward the national economy. It is the largest generator of wealth and employment in the world. Moreover, for Kyrgyzstan tourism plays an important role in development of the economy. The Kyrgyz Republic is blessed with a high potential in growing tourism sector because of its rich cultural heritage and natural beauty yet it is impeded by various forces of problems and challenges. Until 1991, the Kyrgyz Republic was a part of the Soviet Union and the economic development was not open to the outside world. Thus, the development activities remain slow and needed major economic reforms. However, as the country got independence in 1991 , there was a shift in economic development leading to growth of numerous industries including the Tourism Industry. Nevertheless, the Tourism Industiy in particular was facing many obstacles and required major reforms. The major issues are low quality of services, undeveloped infrastructure, difficult access to the country for potential tourist due to the mountainous terrain and insufficiently developed transportation infrastructure, administrative barriers and unnecessary intervention by regulatory agencies rising the cost of tourist services in Kyrgyzstan, lack of information abroad on tourist opportunities in Kyrgyzstan and growing competition on the international tourist market. Therefore, this research study will analyze the above-mentioned issues of the tourism industry and develop the strategy to improve the current tourism industry of Kyrgyzstan. It will also focus on key points that would enable Tourism in Kyrgyzstan to develop as per the international standard. At the end, the research study will provide possible recommendations to address the aforementioned issues in the tourism industry of Kyrgyzstan and indicate some constructive ways to implement the recommendations.
