AbstractThis research seeks to provide an opportunity for the business sector to address poverty issues by seeking opportunities at the bottom of the economic pyramid while embracing a socially-conscious corporate strategy. This is done by bringing the poor at the center of the value chain and by helping them improve the quality of their lives through innovative products and services that are beneficial and sustainable. This research also aims at encouraging the business sector to "re-think" their business models and mold it so it can reach a wider market and aid in attaining a win-win solution both for the business and the indigent sector. The study reviewed models used by Grameen Bank of Bangladesh and Fabio Rosa's Palmares Project from Brazil. The Philippine Businesses for Social Progress, a corporateled foundation from the Philippines is also featured to point the importance of executing Corporate Social Responsibility practice in the workplace. These examples show how traditional business models can include social causes without burdening the bottom-line. Furthermore, they reinforce the fact that there are existing frameworks that businesses can follow on how to enhance their value chain so that social issues such as poverty are addressed. This study uses secondary literatures and interviews in support of its arguments. Key literature on corporate social responsibility, value chain, poverty and sustainable development were reviewed and discussed.
