AbstractToday the Thai government has been supporting oil subsidy for almost a year. The government's intension is to stabilize the economy that will create platform which will foster growth. However, the cost of supporting the subsidy has reached the level that the government could not afford to overlook any longer. The debt accumulated by supporting the subsidy had reached the 70 billion baht mark and continue to grow as the government continue to support the difference between the world price and the supporting price. With many prominent figures both in academia and business field started to question the effectiveness of the subsidy, the government will have to review the status of the oil subsidy soon. This research study attempts to take advantage of the need of the government to review about the possibility of removal of oil subsidy and the effect that follow from the removal. The framework is developed based on past researches on impact of oil price increase and researches on subsidy reform. This research study will incorporate both qualitative technique by having in-depth interview with executive officer who is expert in macro-economic forecasting and quantitative technique namely the input-output analysis to study the impacts of oil price change brought by removal of oil subsidy. To conclude the study, the author will provide his own input as recommendation on how Thai government could approach the oil subsidy reform.
