Abstract | In today's competitive manufacturing environment, product life cycle is getting substantially shorter. To be in track with global business, companies need to come out with products that are price competitive, more effective in their response, and new in design. Toy business is one of the most sophisticated businesses, where the competition is global and tough, designs are changing frequently, and price determination is rather more complex. There is a prompt change in customers' demand nowadays. Despite bulk quantity of a peculiar product, customer wants now comparatively small volume with numerous varieties. Considering the above factors, issue arises in terms of response times, inventory control, meeting with due dates, data tracking and management etc. This project was done for a toy manufacturing company Global Toys Limited (GTL), which is facing the same situation. The production environment is similar to a job shop environment for a toy manufacturing company. In this case, a continuous improvement for balancing is desired for material flow right from the supplier to manufacturer to the retailer. The Warehouse system for Global Toys Limited was studies and improvements have been suggested. To achieve the organizational goals, along with all involved factors, improvement in management policy becomes very necessary. Inconsistencies in the warehouse management are expressed and related issues are explored. The scope of study is to develop a warehouse model using Industrial Management concepts and principals, which would be able to sort out those issues. Further, it is possible to verify and validate the model and it could be applied to check its efficiency with the real factory situation. |
