AbstractOne of the most critical problems which have been addressed a lot in supply chain management is the impact of bullwhip effect - the phenomenon in which demand information is distorted while moving upstream. A lot of effort has been spent by many researchers in order to quantify the bullwhip effect. However, although it is well known that demand forecast, lead-time, order batching, shortage gamming and price fluctuation are the main sources that lead to the bullwhip effect, quantifying bullwhip effect is still a challenging problem in many practical situations. Some researchers have dealt with this problem for AR(1) autoregressive demand process. However, in many practical situations, high-order autoregressive process should be employed due to the fact that they might better represent the demand process. Up to now, very little effort has been spent on this matter. This research is, therefore, conducted to fill the gap by first dealing with AR(2) demand process for a simple two-stage supply chain that includes only one retailer and one supplier. The main target of this research is to develop measures of bullwhip effect.
