AbstractUncertainties can occur in the customer demand and costs in the inventory management system. The study investigates the effects of these uncertainties in the multi-echelon system, consisting of one warehouse N-retailer, by developing a fuzzy model. Both echelons follow the periodic review policy and decisions of the interval review and order-up-to-levels given from the fuzzy model are validated through simulation. The Function Principle is applied to calculate the trapezoid fuzzy numbers representing uncertainties in the fuzzy model. The changes of uncertain demand or uncertain cost have significant impact on the system optimal value. In addition, the fuzzy model with the centralized strategy gives a significant improvement in the total system cost, when compared with the decentralized strategy using either deterministic or stochastic models.
