AbstractThis thesis deals with an operation of a petroleum refinery. The main objective is to develop a comprehensive mathematical programming model for the scheduling of oil refinery operations to minimize total production cost. The model links three parts in the refinery operation including decisions related to crude oil, production processes and decisions for final products produced or inventoried. The problem is formulated as a mixed integer programming model and relies on both continuous and discrete time representation. With the increases size of some factors as length of planning period, number of raw materials or number of operation run modes, the solution time grew quickly and only moderate size problem can be solved. Cplex optimization software is used to solve the test problems. Based on the analysis of Scenarios, it is estimated how total production cost is affected by the factors. The optimization model can be considered as a useful tool for supporting production planning at the refinery.
