AbstractIn order to improve production rate and to decrease production cost, many companies and plants try to use advanced technology in automating the production process. Global Bangkok Limited (GBL) a leading manufacturer of toy products for children wanted to improve the production capacity and also lower the production cost by reducing the labor involved in one of their processing area called Vacuum metallization. In this study, a conceptual design of process automation is carried out in the vacuum metallization area. Vacuum Metallization process involves a set of 10 different operations before and after the actual vacuum metallization process. The total process involved a huge amount of manual labor and the process as was not in a proper sequential flow. As this process is carried out in classical way, it tends to consume lot of men, material, machine, money and minute. By this automation project, a low cost conceptual automation design was proposed which reduced the number of operation involved in the process. A new scheme of flow line was indexed which improves flow control and accessibility. Bottlenecks of the operation where identified and the best cycle times of the individual operations were utilized to its maximum so that the maximum productive of the process is achieved. A fair amount of manual labors were reduced thus reducing the production cost considerably.
